Places to visit near Sasan Gir

Gir National Park

Gir National Park is the only place in Asia home to Asiatic Lions. It is a popular tourist attraction in Gir Gujarat. The Sasan Gir area is part of the Katihar-Gir forest ecoregion and covers an area of about 1,410 square kilometres, including the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary. Besides Africa, Asiatic lions can only be found here in their natural habitat because of its mountains, rivers, sharp ridges, and plateaus.

Somnath Temple

Somnath Temple was once regarded as one of the richest temples in the pre-Mughal period. Several foreign rulers and kings looted the temple several times, not only once but many times, for its beauty and wealth. An elegant temple surrounded by a beautiful sea adds to its elegance. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims visit here and spend peacefully with their families. Cameras are not permitted inside the premises, but lockers are available near the entrance. Visitors are highly recommended to visit this place.

Jamzir Waterfall

The waterfall is small, but it is stunningly beautiful. It is active all year round, and visitors are allowed to bathe upstream. Nothing is more relaxing than listening to a waterfall on stones from a height. Water flowing through rocks and stones creates a beautiful sight. This amazing place is great for you to take selfies with your family and friends as a keepsake. But be careful.

Uparkot Fort

Chandragupta is believed to have built this ancient Uparkot Fort in 319 BC, although it has been expanded many times. There are places on the ramparts where they reach 20 meters high. There have been 16 sieges, and legend states that once the fort was besieged for 12 years. Besides the magnificent view of the city and Girnar Hill, the complex also contains a magnificent former mosque, a Buddhist cave complex, and two fine stepwells. There are two fine step-wells cut into the rock in the fort.

Kankai Mata Temple (Banej)

Located inside the Sasan Gir Wildlife Sanctuary, the Kankai Mata Temple is a revered temple approximately 25 kilometers from Sasan Gir. Shri Kankeshwari Mataji and Shri Kankai Mataji venerate the temple. It is believed that the Goddess protects shepherds roaming in the Gir Forest and elsewhere in the state. Furthermore, the temple is regarded as a great refuge for nature lovers.

Diu

Diu is a tiny island connected by a bridge to the southern coast of Gujarat and is rich with Portuguese history. An important architectural landmark of the city is its seafront fort and three churches. If you leave the tourist-packed waterfront strip, the main town is remarkably quiet and clean. It is also legal to drink alcohol here.
